Social Services
Provisions: Religion, Education, and Social Services.
The Goal of providing
social services in a correctional facility shall be to respond
to the social needs of the inmate and to the management needs of
the correctional facility by maintaining and delivering a
diversified range of services. These services include but are
not limited to:
- Services
directed toward assisting inmates cope with interpersonal
problems of an emotional, behavioral or familial nature, other
emergency situations, such as a serious illness or death in the
family, attempted suicide or any situation, which presents or
could result in a crisis.
- Intake,
orientation and assessment interviews, individual counseling,
drug and alcohol addiction counseling, discharge planning,
release preparations, and the referral of inmates to existing
community resources .
- The director
of Social Services will ensure that each inmate has the right to
freedom of religious and voluntary religious worship while
incarcerated.
- Inmates will
have access to educational programs and vocational training,
when it is available. Courses that are available for inmates
include basic education, general education diploma (G.E.D.),
English as a second language, and individual tutoring.
The Social Services
Department has a full time staff of eight individuals and numerous
volunteers from the Central Jersey area that provides services to
the inmate population and there families.
